The World Travel & Tourism Council has been hard at work during our current pandemic. They have outlined safety precautions for several sectors within the industry spectrum, including tour operators, airlines, and hotels. They have also recognized several global destinations that prioritize traveller safety and hygiene, and have issued a certifiable stamp for each of them. Among these nations are Turkey, Bulgaria, Mauritius, Jamaica, Portugal, and Saudi Arabia, as well as major cities such as Barcelona, Cancun, Ontario, Madrid, and Sevilla. This stamp is seen as a way to speed up the recovery of the travel industry, and as a bonus, will provide travellers with an added peace of mind as more destinations start to open up their borders.
Gloria Guevara, the president of WTTC has said that: “The number of global destinations adopting our private sector protocols is growing at a rapid pace shows the success and importance of the WTTC Safe Travels stamp. The stamp is vital to re-establish worldwide consumer confidence in tourism and so travellers can be sure that enhanced standards of hygiene are in place for them to be able to travel safely.”
